The Thursday Night buzz was in Cleveland Ohio as the Browns gave us a surprisingly exciting game against the Buffalo Bills. The game came down to the last few minutes with the Browns squeaking out a victory 37-24 win after a pick six with 1:44 left in the game.
For the past couple of weeks, the story around Cleveland was about the play of quarterback Brian Hoyer and how he has led the Browns to two straight victories. However, in the first quarter, Hoyer was injured and unable to return to the game. Queue in the return of Brandon Weeden. The quarterback who had seemed to of lost his starting position came in and threw for 197 yards and one touchdown. With the help of running back Willis McGahee, who ran for 72 yards and one touchdown, Weeden and the Browns rallied from an early 10-0 deficit and came back to defeat the Bills in the fourth quarter.
Buffalo also experienced quarterback trouble as their rookie quarterback EJ Manuel suffered a knee injury in the third quarter an did not return to the game. Bills C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson ran for a combined total of 119 yards and three touchdowns. With a little more than two minutes left in the game, the Bills trailed 30-24 and had possession of the ball. However, the Browns ended all chances of a Buffalo comeback as T.J. Ward picked off Bills quarterback Jeff Tuel and returned it for a touchdown with 1:44 left in the game.
Other notable players from Thursday’s game include Travis Benjamin who was a monster on the special teams side of the ball today. Benjamin averaged 26 yards off of seven returns and took a 76-yard punt return to the house in the second quarter.
Next week the Browns stay in Cleveland to take on Matt Stafford and the Detroit Lions. The Buffalo Bills head back home to tackle the Cincinnati Bengals in a match-up that should be similar to Thursday’s game.
