Keisel "The Diesel" Draws Lots of Attention

When you ask yourself, “Which Pittsburgh Steelers defensive player is absolutely dominating and has the best hair?” One name pops in mind, or is it two names?  Troy Polamalu has been pasted all over the press for his long locks, but Mr. Brett Keisel is not far behind, nor is his play on or off the field.  Let us take a look at number 99.

Brett Keisel, nicknamed “the Diesel” for obvious reasons has brought his play on the field to a level of excellence, being elected to the Pro bowl last year.   What many people don’t realize is that a “defensive end” in the NFL is a gritty position, not designed to “pad” the stats.  It’s a tough guy position designed to intimidate and dominate, which Brett has accomplished.  His presence is part of a legacy defense that encourages opposing teams to run plays going in the other direction.  Even Aaron Rogers for the Packers stated this, “It is not a good idea to taunt him, he his one scary looking mofo!”

What Brett refers to as “A Beautiful thing” others see as scary thing.  The beard has gained fame since 2010, not just a “good luck” tactic; His beard has its own web page.  That’s right: www.dabeard.com.  It’s almost like another lineman for the Steelers, no wonder they have lead the league in defense multiple times the last few years.  What’s more substantial is that when you look a little deeper you can find out what a great individual Brett is because of the fame.  Last year at the “Shear the Beard” ceremony in Pittsburgh, Brett raised over $40,000 for the Children’s Hospital of UPMC.  He and his wife Sarah also are very involved in many organizations such as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and are Advisory Board members for the Homeless Children’s Education Fund (HCEF).

Mr. Keisel is one of those players that fans love, and his actions on and off the field makes him a joy to root for in the highly scrutinized National Football League.  Watch to see when the beard makes its appearance, I can guarantee this, when it does, the Steelers defense will rank in the top 3.

Being a Minnesota Vikings fan, I like any player who scares Aaron Rogers from Green Bay. It’s refreshing to see that there are stories about NFL players who are doing good things and giving back to the community. The media tends to highlight all the bad things a few players do and not all the great things many players do. Good article!
