The New York Jets opened the season 2-0, but now have lost three games in a row and given up 30 or more points in each game. Now Rex Ryan is calling their next game a Must Win in order to stop the slide.
In his weekly slot on 1050 ESPN Radio, Ryan said, “Quite honestly, we have to win this.”
Their next game is against the 0-4 Miami Dolphins on Monday night. While this seems like a “should win” game as well, the Dolphins beat the Jets 10-6 the last time the Dolphins came to the Meadowlands, and the Jets have had all kinds of trouble the last 3 games.
The Jets have now slid to 2-3 and third place in the AFC East, behind New England and Buffalo. And after the Dolphins, the schedule gets much harder as the Jets face the San Diego Chargers, then after their bye week, the face Buffalo and New England. All three of those opponents are 4-1.
The team is still showing resilience and faith that they can turn this around, and nobody is ready to throw in the towel.
Tight end Dustin Keller said, “We’re a better offense than that. We have so much more ability than that.”
Nose Tackle Sione Pouha added, “We’re a team that’s built to keep swinging.”
“We may get beat, but we’re not going to get beat because we don’t believe in each other and we’re coming apart at the seams,” Ryan said. “That’s not who we are.”
