Although Michael Vick has taken a beating through three games, leaving Week Two with a concussion and Week Three with a deep bruise to his non-throwing hand, he guarantees he’ll be ready to play on Sunday versus the San Francisco 49ers.
“I think there’s a 100 percent chance I’ll be out there this week,” Vick said before practice this week. “It’s a little sore, but gotta do what I gotta do right now and that’s try to get back on the field as fast as I can.”
His x-ray on Sunday was initially diagnosed as a broken hand, but re-examination on Monday revealed that it was just deeply bruised. A blood vessel had been misread on the x-ray for a fracture.
“The swelling has gone down tremendously,” Vick said. “It’s getting better because I’m getting treatment, but it’s still painful and sore in different areas. Hopefully, put some padding in there and make it easier to bear, and I’m sure they’ll do that.”
Vick has been using a hyperbaric chamber at home to accelerate the healing process. The chamber puts its occupant in a high oxygen environment. Darren Sharper gave a tour of his hyperbaric chamber when he joined the Vikings a few years back, and the video of that is available HERE.
“That investment is probably the best investment I’ve made in a long time, and that’s the reason I’ve made the progress I’ve made the last two days,” he said. “I’m a quick healer anyway.”
Vick is clearly doing everything he can to be back on the field to help his team.
“It’s frustrating, not being able to complete a football game and not being able to be out there with your team in times of need,” Vick said. “I heard Tony Romo say the other day, 16 days are required for this job and those are the days that you want to be out there.
“To not be out there, it was tough the last two weeks, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure I can finish each and every game for the next 13 games.”
