The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t look quite like themselves this past weekend, as the latest installment in the always close series with the Baltimore Ravens turned into an error-prone blowout. They almost seemed like a completely different team. Perhaps we’ve found the answer.
While Heinz Field is the home for the Pittsburgh Steelers, this summer it had a second use. It was used as a production studio for a scene in the final chapter of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises.”
Many Steelers will be making cameo appearances in the upcoming film due to release in the summer of 2012. They include names like Big Ben Roethlisburger, Hines Ward, James Farrior, Troy Polamalu, Heath Miller, Mike Wallace just to name a few.
The movie’s leads, Christian Bale (Batman) and Anne Hathaway (Catwoman), will be headlines, but you can also see some cameos from Bill Cower and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. The Gotham Rogues, the team that the Steelers will make their appearance for, will be facing the Rapid City Monuments. There will be no “Steelers” logos in the movie; however, Black and Gold fans filled the stadium this past August for filming.
Which leads to the question: “Which team showed up for the Steelers -Ravens match up in week one?” Was it the Gotham City Rogues (Dark Knight)? Or our precious Steelers (Dark Horse)? Much like many comic books, things always start out rough, the good guy gets beat up a little, but what is epic about that loss to the Ravens, is that it continues a storyline that has developed years ago. The Ravens and Steelers matchup is always a battle.
Thomas Tull, the film’s executive producer, joined the Steelers as part owner, nearly two years ago. Thomas has a very distinguished resume, including the original Dark Knight (2008), Inception (2010), 300 (2006), and the Hangover (2009). Thomas Tull grew up in Binghamton, NY in close proximity to Pittsburgh. Being both a lifelong Steelers fan and Batman fan, Tull is a rare individual that can combined a comic book and football passion and is helping director, Chistopher Nolan, create a masterpiece.
