Since Tim Tebow burst onto the college scene, the passionate quarterback has gathered quite the following. After unfair treatment during his NFL career, one fan is standing up for their quiet hero.
This particular Tebow fan is taking his or her cause as high as the White House.
In the proposed petition, the unnamed fan asks that the Jaguars hire Tim Tebow, with the condition that he also be the starting quarterback. Though having a large following, Tebow “fans” are not showing love to the fallen quarterback. The petition, which has been active since April 30, has only gathered 59 signatures thus far.
The fan in question has yet to attract the attention of President Obama, but has garnered some media attention in the pursuit of justice. The White House and President Obama have yet to comment on the plea bargain because a specific number of signatures have not been achieved.
The exact wording of the fan’s request is as follows:
“Jacksonville Jaguars fans want the team to sign recently released QB Tim Tebow. However, rookie general manager for the Jacksonville Jaguars, David Caldwell, is blocking this from happening. IF the Jaguars sign and START Tebow, home games will be sold out, sales will spike, the team will win, and fans will be happy.”
After his dismissal from the Jets, Tebow tweeted a Bible passage that would suggest he is optimistic of his chance to re-sign with a team this off-season. His tweet, from Proverbs 3:5-6 reads: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not leans on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Although the petition is unlikely to meet the required amount of signatures, it is well known that our Commander-in-Chief is a big sports nut. Obama could wind up addressing the issue, though it would be unfair to assume that Tebow would be named the starter.
Should the proposal fizzle and Tebow fails to land on a roster as a quarterback, a positional change could be in order. . In a league that values QBs so highly, it speaks to Tebow’s abilities as a player that no team is interested in him as the leader of their offense. NFL teams had contacted the Jets about Tebow’s status as an H-back, or tight end/running back hybrid style of player. For the struggling Tebow, it might be his last chance to crack an NFL roster.
