Tasha Robinson-White has lived a life many would be grateful to have lived. Robinson-White has spent over 20 years working with some of the entertainment world’s biggest players. She also spent twelve years working as Floyd Mayweather’s right hand and has written a book about the experience called “Right Hand to the Champ.”
Robinson-White held the position of CEO of Mayweather Music as well as the President of The Floyd Mayweather Jr. foundation. It was during that period of time where she saw everything from the highest of the highs in Mayweather’s life to the lowest of the lows and she was right there by his side through it all.
I sat down with Robinson-White for a series of exclusive interviews for my website Parks, Sports and Recreation. You can check out the full interview there including some great personal stories between the two.
RP: Explain how you got your start with Floyd Mayweather Jr?
TRW: My story and meeting and becoming close with Floyd Mayweather was sort of ironic. I had just moved to Las Vegas from Atlanta. I first met Floyd after he won the gold medal in the 1996 Olympics that took place in Atlanta. I then relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada where I was doing some event planning at different nightclubs and venues in the area. We became fast friends and eventually Floyd asked me to come do some work for him. The rest is history…
RP: During your time working for Floyd Mayweather when did you know he was a star and that you wanted to work for him for a long time?
TRW: We are both Michigan natives and we have a strong work ethic where we come from. I saw this drivermination in Floyd early on and was immediately drawn to him. In 2005, I became all-in exclusive working for Floyd Mayweather. I always saw him growing and the potential he had. I am extremely happy for his success and will always wish the best for him. We still talk till this day so everything is all good.
RP: What really made you decide to write this memoir?
TRW: One thing I always say is that life didn’t stop because I stopped working for Floyd. I feel that this book will definitely touch other women in the business. The entertainment industry is a tough industry to be in. I co-wrote this book with a good friend of mine named Cassandra Cousineau who watched me grow in the business. This book wouldn’t be what it is without her. Also, I am very happy in my life now and have freedom to pursue ventures such as this one. I don’t get $20,000 checks anymore but I do have my time back. I definitely value having TIME over MONEY.
RP: What can readers expect from the book, “Right Hand To The Champ”?
TRW: You can expect to see a more human side of Floyd Mayweather from the point of view of a regular girl from Michigan. You can expect to read the honest truth about Floyd’s and I relationship, I did not sugarcoat anything. You can expect to relate to me because I kept it real.
RP: What kind of reaction have you gotten from Floyd Mayweather and his current camp? Also, how has the general public reacted to “Right Hand To The Champ”?
TRW: First and foremost I told the TRUTH and the entire truth. I was able to learn valuable life lessons that I was able to then share with the general public. The overall reaction of the public has been positive. Of course the reaction of Floyd’s camp has not been the best. However, Floyd himself doesn’t mind and we still speak pretty regularly. Floyd Mayweather has not read the book himself and he probably will not. The book was actually released the day after Floyd’s good friend Earl Hayes committed suicide. So it was pretty interesting timing with everything. One thing that many people do not know is that Floyd’s parents and mine are actually pretty close as well. So the relationship goes beyond boxing and business. Life has definitely gotten very interesting.
RP: What did you learn at “Mayweather University?”
TRW: I got the rare opportunity to be around Floyd on a daily basis and to study Floyd. I learned who Floyd Mayweather the man was as opposed to Pretty Boy Floyd or Money Mayweather. Floyd has a very giving heart. If you are around him you’re considered family.
I learned many lessons which I touch on in the book. One lesson is lesson number 11 in the book: Losing Can Mean winning. Sometimes it’s best to take a loss and walk away from a situation.
RP: Last question, would you ever consider working for Floyd Mayweather in the future? Why or why not?
TRW: I would consider working with him on different projects and events, thingsof that nature. However, I would not work for him again. Working for Floyd Mayweather is a lot of work! It is not a 9-5, 40 hour a week job, it is a 24/7 job. It is definitely not for the faint of heart. My 12 years with Floyd were great overall and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
RP: Last but not least, what’s next for Tasha Robinson-White?
TRW: I am currently working on a musical which is coming soon. I have a show that I am looking to get picked up called “Tasha’s Treasures” where I raid celebrities’ closets and auction their old belongings for charity. I do not see myself working in sports ever again. If an athlete needs a PR person that could be feasible but I am not interested in “working for” a high profiile athlete again. I really have no goal. The sky is the limit and the possibilities are endless. Just have to #KEEPGOING
Updated from Subsequent Interview:
RP: It’s great to be able to catch up to you again Tasha. How has life been since “Right Hand To The Champ” got released? Is anything different now than before?
TRW: Life has been the exact same for me Rob. I have had multiple appearances and interviews lately so that has been pretty cool. I definitely still have a husband to take care of and hold down, kids to raise and bills to pay. A lot of people say I was brave to put this project out. Who I am today is not the person I was back when I worked for Floyd Mayweather. I am sure he can say the same for himself. We have both gotten older and matured as human beings. The person that the general public thinks Floyd Mayweather is, is not the person I know and I wanted to convey that in “Right Hand To The Champ”. I wrote this memoir for three reasons:
1. I wanted to reach other women who work in male dominated businesses and to let them know that I face and have faced the same problems they face. I want to offer these women words of wisdom and provide some insight to help them at the end of the day.
2. I wanted to set the record straight on why I no longer work for Floyd and tell my side of the story. I think I have done just that.
3. It was therapeutic to get this out and into book form. Floyd and I have both matured as I said before. We want to continue to move forward with our lives. I definitely have a TESTIMONY and I wanted to share it with the world.
RP: Tasha there is something I am curious about. How is Floyd’s relationship with 50 Cent?
TRW: They were real best friends at one point. They talk the most trash and are hilarious when they are together. I am not sure why they fell out because that was between those two. That happened after I worked for Floyd. However, in my eyes 50 Cent was always a real dude with Floyd. He always kept it 100 with him.
RP: What kind of reaction have you gotten from Floyd Mayweather and his current camp? Also, how has the general public reacted to “Right Hand To The Champ”?
