The Defensive Tackle known as Star Lotulelei spoke with the media on Opening Night, and fielded many questions regarding Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos, and some guy named Peyton Manning.

The 2013 first round draft pick for the Carolina Panthers pretty much gave away the defensive game plan for Super Bowl 50, “We’re going to play the same kind of defense we’ve played all year. We’re going to try and get after Peyton Manning as much as we can, to help out our back seven. Hopefully that’s enough.”

That sounds simple enough, right? While the Denver Broncos may have led the NFL in quarterback sacks this year, it was the Carolina Panthers that led the League in take aways. The Panthers have continued this trend in the post season, especially in the NFC Championship game where the Carolina defense produced seven turnovers as the Panthers routed the Arizona Cardinals 49-15.

Lotulelei said they will try and continue what they’ve done all season, “We’re going to play the same kind of defense we’ve played all year. We’re going to try and get after Peyton Manning as much as we can, to help out our back seven. Hopefully that’s enough.”

(More from Lotulelei on stopping Denver’s offense) “It can be tough if you’re not gap-sound and you’re not strict on where to be, it can kill you, so that’s what we need to do. Everybody on our defense needs to do their job.”

When asked about playing against Cam Newton in practice, Lotulelei answered with this gem, “I don’t chase him. I don’t try to chase him, I can’t catch him. I know I can’t catch him. I leave that to the fast guys – I’ll leave it to Luke (Kuechly).”
