Prosecutor’s presented the case to the grand jury on Thursday. Dallas police had referred the domestic violence assault case to the grand jury rather than arresting Manziel immediately. He faces up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Additionally, according to the CBS DFW report, Manziel and his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, have reached an out-of-court civil settlement. The terms are undisclosed. In February, a judge placed a restraining order on the former Heisman Trophy-winning and Cleveland Browns quarterback — he is required to stay away from Crowley for two years.

Crowley had told police that the incident, which took place on Jan. 29, was sparked after she and Manziel had argued about another woman. After Manziel forced her into his car, she escaped and hid behind some bushes, Crowley said, until Manziel found her and forced her back into the car. She said that after he struck her, Manziel said he would be dropping her back at her car, and then killing himself.

“He grabbed me by my hair and threw me back into the car and got back in himself,” Crowley said in an affidavit filed on Feb 3. “He hit me with his open hand on my left ear for jumping out of the car. I realized immediately that I could not hear out of that ear, and I still cannot today, two days later. Fearful for my life, I hit Respondent several times, hoping I could back out of the car. Respondent threw me off of him and I hit my head on the car window and I fell into the passenger floorboard. Still fearful for my life, I stayed in the floorboard motionless until Respondent pulled me back onto the seat.”

Johnny Manziel was drafted by the Browns during the first round of the 2014 draft. After two seasons filled with frequent off-the-field issues and mediocre performances on the field, he was ultimately released last March. The 23-year-old was recently dropped by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, after demands of seeking help for his substance abuse problems were not met. Rosenhaus was the second agent to terminate Manziel as a client this year.
