Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell broke his collarbone in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Browns. The injury, according to reports, is expected to cost him the rest of the season.
“I’m not going to let this football team blink,” coach Hue Jackson said after a 24-17 victory. “We’ll miss Jason for a little while. I have no idea how long it will take. I don’t know. We’ll see as we go. I know, obviously, he won’t be here next week or anything like that. We’ll continue to press forward and get better.”
Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Raiders had been “trying hard” to make a deal for Carson Palmer before this week and that Campbell’s injury caused the Raiders to hit the phones quickly. The Raiders are hoping to get the “retired” Palmer, who has been pushing for a trade since early in the off season.

That said, past practices of Cincinnati owner Mike Brown make it unlikely that he would deal Palmer and the Raiders might have an easier time picking up David Garrard.
Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Raiders have also reached out to free agent quarterback David Garrard. Garrard and his agent, Al Irby, plan to discuss the situation and get back to the Raiders on Monday afternoon according Schefter’s source.
Quarterback Kyle Boller was predictably mediocre in Campbell’s absence, completing 8 of 14 passes for 100 yards.
“I felt very comfortable,” Boller said. “I probably was a little bit quick in the beginning. Wish I could slow my feet down a little bit, but that’s part of it. I felt like in the second half I got more comfortable each play, and even in the last couple drives it felt good.”
Quarterback rookie Terrelle Pryor will be activated Monday and Boller is currently slated to take over as Oakland’s starter, well for now anyway.
