The NFL Players Association proudly focuses on breast cancer awareness throughout the month of October by having events, raising funds and wearing special uniforms and gear during the games.
The Players Association recently held a One Team for the Cure reception in Houston, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to celebrate the Houston Race for the Cure. The reception was held on September 29, and was hosted by breast cancer survivors and NFLPA BCA Ambassador Glover Quin. In addition, offensive lineman Chester Pitts and former player Ben Cavil were in attendance.
Breast cancer survivor Brenda Lozano wrote in to thank the players for their involvement. Brenda is a nine-year breast cancer survivor who has become very active in sharing her story with others to promote early detection.
“The evening was festive, the food was delicious, and knowing the involvement that NFL players take in this fight against breast cancer was priceless information to me. Just the presence of the players gave me the strength that I can fight cancer.”
“May God continue to bless your efforts to bring to the world’s attention the need for continued support (financial and emotional) and research so that we will one day have less cancer and more birthdays. Thank you for reading my heartfelt thoughts.”
