Players Seek at Least $707M in TV Damages from NFL

In a two hour hearing before U.S. District Court Judge David Doty in Minneapolis NFL players pushed for damages in their dispute over broadcast revenue. That number according to NFLPA attorney Tom Heiden should be at least $707 million.

The players say that the league illegally secured the “war chest” of $4 billion by renegotiating TV deals for the 2011 season. Doty ruled on March 1 that the NFL violated the collective bargaining agreement.

In his earlier ruling, Doty said that the league left money on the table by failing to maximize revenues for the players in its negotiations with the TV networks.

Doty took arguments under advisement and is not expected to issue a ruling until next week at the earliest.
An appeal is likely regardless of how Doty rules while the money remains in escrow.
