Osi Umenyiora was brought in by the Atlanta Falcons for one purpose only; to lead them to a Super Bowl trophy. So far the Falcons are very happy with their newest addition on the defensive side of the ball. The Atlanta Falcons signed Umenyiora this off-season to help fill the void that former Falcons defensive end; John Abraham, left this off-season. Osi has shown the Falcons something other than his on-field play lately.
Atlanta Falcons coordinator Mike Nolan has been very impressed with Umenyiora’s leadership qualities. “”His leadership ability has shown up quite a bit with our young players, which has been outstanding and great”, Nolan told the team’s website. “”He’s an early bird kind of guy, so he’s in here working with some of our younger guys and even a couple of older guys have gravitated toward that and they’re all working together.” Nolan also noted that Osi’s leadership qualities were much needed on the defensive side of the ball if they want to take the next step in winning a Super Bowl trophy.
Atlanta finally won its first playoff game last post season since the 2004 playoffs and adding a guy like Umenyiora; who helped the New York Giants win two Super Bowls; will help teach the younger players how to step their game up to the next level if they ever want to win a Super Bowl trophy. Although John Abraham was graded as the fourth defensive end by ProFootballFocus.com at the end of last season and Osi was ranked all the way down at number 31, Osi brings experience and leadership qualities that the Falcons needed. Umenyiora’s age may by catching up with him (31) and he is not a long term solution for the Falcons, he was brought in to win the Super Bowl this season and if he can stay healthy he just might earn his 3rd ring.
