Manziel on his weekend in Vegas: “I’m just living a normal life.”
1st round pick out of Texas A&M, Johnny Manziel, also known as “Johnny Football,” caused a recent media storm after spending his Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas. Social media had photos of Manziel poolside with Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski accompanied by a plethora of young ladies in bikinis shown below. After the photo had gotten around, he decided to put it out on his own Instagram account. Manziel has come to terms with the fact that wherever he goes, photos will probably be taken. He said, “It’s just how things are. For some reason wherever I go people want to take pictures. They think I’m doing something wild when I’m just living a normal life.”
Manziel told the swarm of media surrounding him in Cleveland on Wednesday that he finds it acceptable to blow off some steam every now and then as long as it doesn’t interfere with his main focus, playing quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. “If I want to go out and have some fun and it doesn’t hinder what my main goals in life are, then I really don’t care what anyone has to say.”
What’s looming on Manziel’s mind is why he’s getting this attention when he hasn’t played one down of professional football. He said, “The thing I keep wondering about the most is I haven’t really done anything at this level. I haven’t done anything to establish myself or create this type of buzz or anything like that. I’m just another rookie.”
Head Coach Mike Pettine called his quarterback’s vacation “a non-issue.” Manziel’s teammates seemed to agree with Pettine, such as 7x Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas. “You can be committed seven days a week and still have fun at night,” he said.
Manziel’s coaches and teammates may seem quite ok with his weekend trip; however, the media attention their first year quarterback draws for his every action could begin to become a team issue if it continues. What was his response to all the hype over his weekend? An Instagram photo shown below with the caption “Guess it’s impossible to enjoy the weekend and study?”
Sixth-round pick Lache Seastrunk apparently has nothing to improve upon this year
The former Baylor Bear spoke out this week saying, “I feel I don’t have any weaknesses,” according to ESPN’s John Keim. Seastrunk seems confident that the Redskins have found someone they won’t have to spend much time coaching with those words.
Redskins QB Robert Griffin III also feels confident about his former teammate at Baylor joining the Redskins. According to Redskins Head Coach Jay Gruden, RGIII had been texting him during the draft. “I was trying to ignore my phone,” said Gruden. “He’s a big fan of Lache and they’re obviously good friends, and he has a lot of good things to say about him. So I know Robert’s happy and we’re happy to have Lache.”
Coaches have raved about Seastrunk’s speed and ability to breakoff the big runs, however his mentality may not quite live up to the talent he puts out on the field. Seastrunk dropped more passes in two seasons at Baylor than he reeled in, dropping 10 out of 19 balls. But that possible weakness in his game certainly doesn’t seem to be plaguing him. “Everyone drops balls,” he said. “Calvin Johnson drops balls, so I’m not worried about that.” These are bold words coming from a first year player looking to make a name for himself.
