Jacoby Jones has already won one championship this season as a member of the Baltimore Ravens. Jones and his team beat the San Francisco 49ers with their Super Bowl win this past February. He had some highlight reel plays during the game with a NFL postseason record. During that game, Jones set a kickoff return for a touchdown of 108 yards and also had a 56 yard touchdown reception to cap off an incredible Super Bowl performance. Then he took his talents to the ballroom when he was invited to be on the 16th season of Dancing with the Stars.
Jacoby has entertained and wowed the crowd all season long on Dancing with the Stars, but with the entertainment comes criticism. He was often been criticized this season about needing to improve his footwork if he wanted to win the competition. Then just last week; the week before the final four, Jacoby and his dance partner Karina Smirnoff, finally came through in a big way by earning his first perfect score of 30.
Jones was hoping to become the 4th NFL player to win the Dancing with the Stars competition. If he won he would be the 4th NFL player who won a Super Bowl to also win Dancing with the Stars. The previous four NFL players to win the Dancing with the Stars competition were Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, and Donald Driver. Monday night was the finale of the 16th season of Dancing with the Stars which concluded with the audience votes for the winner.
The three other celebrities vying for the Mirrorball Trophy were country singer Kellie Pickler, Disney star Zendaya, and Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman. The Baltimore Ravens star is known for his high energy and engaging personality on the football field but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to win over the Dancing with the Stars fans.
The winner of this season was country singer Kellie Pickler and her partner Derek Hough. Jones came in third and he had nothing but great things to say about his partner Karnia Smirnoff “Out of all my training I’ve had, I’ve never had a woman push me like she did and I’ll be catching the ball like this now”. Although he didn’t win Dancing with the Stars, Jones will use this minor failure as motivation and fuel for this upcoming season to improve contributions as a Baltimore Ravens. Who knows, maybe we can expect some new fancy footwork on the field.
