Hard Knocks Getting League Attention

NFL vice president Ray Anderson, who is in charge of discipline, is “disturbed” with the way the Chicago Bears safety Brandon Meriweather has played this season according to Peter King of Sports Illustrated.  Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison was called to NFL offices last year to answer for violent play.

Meriweather was fined $25,000 for an unnecessary roughness hit last Sunday and $20,000 the previous week for a shot to the helmet of Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith.

Last season, Meriweather received fines for illegal hits including $50,000 in fines in one game against the Baltimore Ravens when he was playing for the Patriots.

When asked about the hits Bear coach Lovie Smith didn’t seem overly concerned, “Can’t worry too much about that,” Smith said. “We try to coach the players up the best we can with it.”
