The Washington Redskins upset the New York Giants 23-10, in a tough loss that puts the Giants back in the position of playing from behind for a playoff slot. After beating the Cowboys last weekend, the Giants had pulled into a tie with the Cowboys for first place in the NFC East with both teams at 7-6. But this loss combined with the Cowboys win on Saturday, puts the Giants a game back and having to look forward to their matchup in the season finale with the Cowboys for a chance to regain a slot in the playoffs.
Eli Manning had his worst game of the season as he threw 3 interceptions, while completing 23 of 40 passes for 257 yards and no TDs. The Giants were also penalized 8 times for 75 yards in a somewhat sloppy outing. The Giants last ranked rushing offense did slightly better than their season average, but only slightly, as Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs combined for 91 rushing yards in the game.
Washington was efficient in scoring points with what little offense they did produce. The Redskins only managed 300 yards of total offense, and Rex Grossman threw 1 TD and 2 INTs in the winning effort, but it was enough. The Redskins also produced 123 rushing yards, although they ran the ball 40 times and only averaged 3.1 yards per carry.
The victory pushes the Redskins to 5-9 and drops the Giants to 7-7, and a game behind the 8-6 Cowboys. The Giants also have to get passed the Jets next weekend and stay within a game of the Cowboys to make the season finale relevant. Dallas faces the Philadelphia Eagles in their penultimate game, which may not be any easier as the Eagles are playing for pride.
The NFC East battle looks to come right down to the wire.
