Linebacker ELVIS DUMERVIL of the Baltimore Ravens was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for games played in the 14th week of the 2014 season (December 4, 7-8), the NFL announced today.
DEFENSE: LB ELVIS DUMERVIL, BALTIMORE RAVENS
- Dumervil had four tackles, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble in the Ravens’ 28-13 win at Miami.
- His 3.5 sacks led all players in Week 14, and the Ravens’ six sacks were the most among AFC clubs. Baltimore limited Miami to 249 total net yards.
- Each of Dumervil’s 3.5 sacks came during series in which the Dolphins were forced to punt or turned the ball over on downs.
- Dumervil is tied for the NFL lead with 16.0 sacks this season, eclipsing PETER BOULWARE (15.0 in 2001) for the Ravens’ single-season record.
- In his ninth season from Louisville, this is Dumervil’s second career Player of the Week Award and first since 2007 with Denver (Week 14).
- Dumervil is the first Ravens defender to be named Defensive Player of the Week since linebacker TERRELL SUGGS in 2011 (Week 14).
