Elvis Dumervil named AFC Defensive Player of Week

Linebacker ELVIS DUMERVIL of the Baltimore Ravens was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for games played in the 14th week of the 2014 season (December 4, 7-8), the NFL announced today.

DEFENSE: LB ELVIS DUMERVIL, BALTIMORE RAVENS

  • Dumervil had four tackles, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble in the Ravens’ 28-13 win at Miami.
  • His 3.5 sacks led all players in Week 14, and the Ravens’ six sacks were the most among AFC clubs. Baltimore limited Miami to 249 total net yards.
  • Each of Dumervil’s 3.5 sacks came during series in which the Dolphins were forced to punt or turned the ball over on downs.
  • Dumervil is tied for the NFL lead with 16.0 sacks this season, eclipsing PETER BOULWARE (15.0 in 2001) for the Ravens’ single-season record.
  • In his ninth season from Louisville, this is Dumervil’s second career Player of the Week Award and first since 2007 with Denver (Week 14).
  • Dumervil is the first Ravens defender to be named Defensive Player of the Week since linebacker TERRELL SUGGS in 2011 (Week 14).
