The Colts have been struggling this season without Payton Manning at the helm which has led many to ask when the star quarterback will return. According to his brother Eli, Peyton Manning could be back on the field this season.
“Maybe he could be back this year,” the Giants quarterback told USA TODAY this week. “I don’t know if that’s the smart thing under the circumstances, but I expect him to be back next year.
“He’s always been a fast healer. He wants to be out there. He’s being aggressive in his rehab and looking to get back on the field as soon as possible. He looks into every possibility, every opportunity, to get back as soon as possible.”
Earlier this week, Colts vice chairman Bill Polian has said he is ready to talk about drafting a successor for Peyton Manning in next year’s NFL draft. And perhaps more importantly, Manning is on board with it as well.
“The bottom line is that if the right person is there, and it has to be the right person, then now is the time to make that choice,” Polian said on his weekly radio show. “Peyton and I have spoken about that, and he’s OK with that.”
The Colts are currently the only winless team in the league. This gives them the inside track to take anyone, and speculation is that Stanford’s Andrew Luck will automatically be the number one pick in the draft. He is said to be the best-prepared prospect coming out of college since… Peyton Manning.
