Eagles Hoping to Soar Over Redskins

The Philadelphia Eagles have turned promise into doubt.  Andy Reid and company haul a four game losing streak to FedEx Field this Sunday.  The Washington Redskins attempt to throw a crushing blow.  Michael Vick and the Eagles look to end the misery, and conquer the NFC East rival.

Thus far, sloppy play and costly errors are crippling the Eagle’s season. “Now listen, both sides of the ball have to do better, absolutely do better, but we got to take care of the little things.  Everyone has to do their jobs a little bit better and we have to put the players in position to make plays,” said Coach Andy Reid.  Reid’s offense turned the ball over an alarming 15 times, the most in the NFL.  Rookie defensive coordinator, Juan Castillo, has not managed to slow down the rushing attack.  Philadelphia is allowing 140.2 yards per game, 30th in the league.

The Redskins stand-alone in first place.  Mike Shanahan’s hard as nails defense, and tough rushing attack, has the Redskins at 3-1.  The defense is instrumental in the successful start.  Washington has allowed 15.8 points a game this season.  They plan to contain an explosive Eagles offense.

Shanahan and the Redskins recognize the Eagles come to FedEx Field starving for a win.  “We know they’re going to come here with a bad taste in their mouth, and we’re going to have to play one of our better games,” said Coach Mike Shanahan.  The stingy Redskins’ defense must exploit the inexperienced Eagles’ offensive line, and create turnovers.  Without pressure on Vick, the Redskins have a slim chance of winning.  Look for Washington to run the ball early and often, especially with the Eagles woes against the rush.

Eliminating turnovers and limiting the run are keys for an Eagles victory.  A repeat of last week’s five turnovers will result in another atrocious loss.  Juan Castillo’s defense has to limit the Redskins’ rushing attack.  The talent and athleticism of the Eagles cannot shine, if they do not tackle the fundamentals.

Philadelphia has recent success at FedEx Field.  They have won four of the last five meetings there.  This includes last year’s electric victory on Monday Night Football.  The Redskins were boys amongst men.  An 88-yard Desean Jackson touchdown ignited the onslaught.  Under national spotlight, Vick and the Eagles scorched the Redskins for 59 points.  Chances of history repeating itself are improbable, as the Redskins try to prevent another debilitating loss.
