The Miami Dolphins, dignitaries, cyclists, and physicians will hold a press conference to kickoff their upcoming Dolphins Cycling Challenge (DCC). The DCC, an event that takes place over two days and includes a tri-county cycling event with 100% of the proceeds going to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The initiative was originally created as a collaborative effort between the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center opened in 1992 and is South Florida’s leader in cancer diagnostics. Currently Sylvester handles 5,000 new cancer patients annually and performs more than 2,400 surgeries. Their mission is “to reduce the human burden from cancer and other serious illnesses through research, education, prevention, and the delivery of quality patient care.”The DCC was launched in 2010 and in 2012 they presented the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center a check for $2,200,000. There are four starting points for the races including Sun Life Stadium, Mizner Park Amphitheater in Boca Raton, CityPlace in Palm Spring, and the Dolphins Training Camp. Throughout each route water stops are set up that include everything from entertainment to medical facilities.
The DCC will be Saturday and Sunday, November 2nd and 3rd, 2013. All adult rides (excluding the Virtual Ride) carry a registration fee of $150. This registration fee is non-refundable and DOES NOT count toward each rider’s fundraising minimum.
