Coy Wire Hungry for the Game

[VIDEO] Atlanta Falcons linebacker Coy Wire is hungry like the wolf.  Rookies may want to pay attention to what this 10 year NFL veteran eats for breakfast – insane workouts, ninja pranks, and a mind over matter philosophy.  “When you don’t feed an animal it gets hungry,” Wire warns.  This lockout starved Falcon is ready to feed.  Coy’s been back at the Falcons training facility since Tuesday, and he’s excited to get out on the practice fields, see fans, and sign some autographs. “[Training Camp] is going to be exciting  because we’ve been waiting a long time just to be able to get back to doing what we love. And to be able to give you what you love to see.”

The last time Coy was kept off the field was in 2008.   A neck injury in Game 7 as a Buffalo Bill threatened to keep Coy out of the game forever.    Doctors pieced Coy’s neck vertebrae back together with bone from his hip, four screws, and a titanium plate.  The phoenix of his career rose from the ashes and he emerged as the Special Teams captain for the Atlanta Falcons as a late starter in 2008.  This experience fuels his motivational speeches as he encourages others to never give up on their dreams, and to believe in themselves.  For a 6’0” 225 linebacker, believing in himself and focusing on his goals is what got Coy from a small town in Pennsylvania to playing ball at Stanford University and then to the NFL.

On his well crafted website, www.coywire.com, it is immediately apparent that Coy is a multi-faceted guy.  His home page proclaims: “Inspirational Leader, Professional Athlete, Ninja Prankster.”  He’s a goal oriented, passionate about football, and he’s willing to don a scary mask and jump out of dark corners at his teammates for charity.  There’s some very amusing video footage of “Pranks for a Cause” on the web – think “Inspector Clouseau’s Cato meets Ashton Kutcher.”  Now that everyone is back together again, Coy can start lurking around corners once more, and his teammates will have to stay on their toes.
