It’s what has been a reoccurring theme over recent weeks, the Buffalo Bills face another must-win game when the team heads to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday afternoon.
Buffalo currently sits eighth at 6-6 in a logjam of teams in the AFC playoff race. It is possible that with a win and some help (most notable a Cincinnati Bengals win over the Pittsburgh Steelers), the Bills could be in control of their own density after the weekend.
While a loss wouldn’t technically mathematically eliminate them from the playoff race, Buffalo is currently chasing three teams at 7-5 (Pittsburgh, New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs), making 9-7 a long shot to make the postseason due to Buffalo not holding a lot of the tiebreakers.
Only two of those four teams will be playing meaningful games in January.
To go with the playoff storyline, Bills’ running back LeSean McCoy is making his much anticipated return to Philadelphia, the first meeting with his old team since the Eagles traded him this past off-season.
“Yeah I think any player going back to his old home, you know, wants to have a good game,” McCoy said on Wednesday. “The main thing is just getting a win. So it going to be a tense environment for sure. I know how Philly fans can get. And it is a game they must win also, they want to keep their playoff hopes alive and same with us. I think it blows the game up even more.”
So how is the first meeting going to go with McCoy and Eagles coach Chip Kelly, the man who traded him away?
“Man listen, I am not talking to Chip [Kelly],” McCoy said. “You know we got nothing to talk about. He can’t call me, he can’t shake my hand. There is nothing he can do with me. You know he can’t say (expletive) to me. So I mean that is simple as that. I don’t dislike him, I don’t have nothing against him, but there is nothing for us to talk about. He knows that, he know me, he know how I am, he know how I act. There is nothing he can tell me, there is nothing we can talk about it.”
“Chip [Kelly] can’t shake (expletive), at all, nothing,” McCoy added. “He knows this, that’s why he said, I know him–he is very intelligent. I can read between the lines. Like I said, I have nothing against him, not hatred, we are not enemies. I won’t say anything wrong to him, there is nothing for us to talk about, at all, simple as that. Like I said before there is some people I do want to speak to. The ownership and a lot of different fans out there and a lot of players. There are guys I still talk to know. You know so that is the biggest thing.”
Buffalo will be looking to keep McCoy on his hot-streak, as the back has gained over 100 yards from scrimmage in sixth straight games, including rushing for 112 yards in three out of the past five games.
The Eagles come into the game with a mediocre defense, allowing 124.7 yards on the ground per game (27th in the NFL).
McCoy’s teams are 23-3 when he reaches the 100-yard plateau.
The Eagles have their own playoff aspirations on the line, as Philadelphia is tied for first who three other teams for the NFC East division lead at 5-7.
With both team’s right in the thick of the playoff race, expect a heated affair come Sunday.
