Free agent running back Ahmad Bradshaw is expected to meet with the Indianapolis Colts, according to NBC Sports’ Josh Alper.
Bradshaw who was plagued by a foot injury last season has been linked to the Steelers, Broncos, Jets, and Bengals this offseason. Unfortunately for Bradshaw, all of these teams seem to be moving in other directions. The Jets signed free agent Mike Goodson and made a trade with the Saints to acquire Chris Ivory. The Steelers, Broncos, and Bengals all drafted promising young running backs in the early rounds of this year’s draft. Just when it seemed like no one was interested in the former Giants starter, the Colts entered the mix.
With earlier reports indicating that the Colts planned to start Vick Ballard at tailback this season, a possible Bradshaw signing could shake things up. Unlike Ballard, Bradshaw is a proven NFL every-down back. While injuries have become somewhat of an issue over the last few seasons, when Bradshaw is healthy he is one of the more dangerous running backs in the league.
Having spent his career playing for Tom Coughlin in New York, Bradshaw is well coached when it comes to not only rushing, but receiving out of the backfield and pass-protecting as well. Should the Colts decide to offer Bradshaw a contract following the meeting, it will be interesting to see how Bradshaw fits in, as he will have to compete for playing time with Ballard and fellow running back Donald Brown as well.
