A Rams Carol

Remembering the past might have been where the Rams found the inspiration they needed to beat the Saints Sunday in what was this week’s biggest NFL upset.

In a nod to their history, the Rams wore throwback jerseys like those of the 1999 Super Bowl championship team.

Former Rams defensive lineman and Hall of Famer, Jack Youngblood just released his book this month “Because It Was Sunday,” a reference to Youngblood’s willingness to endure whatever pain necessary to play in the NFL. Youngblood is a legendary example of Rams inspiration and mental strength. He played with the team from 1971 – 1984.

Before Sunday’s game, Rams running back Steven Jackson said he awoke in the middle of the night deciding that enough was enough.  He shared that message and used it to motivate his teammates.

”We came out with a mindset we were going to fight,” said Jackson.

So maybe it was the ghosts of Rams past, present or yet to come that inspired Jackson but regardless of which one, when Jackson awoke he led by example.  Jackson had two touchdowns and his first 100-yard game in three seasons.

“Many laughed to see this alteration, but they let them laugh and little heeded them, for they know that no good thing in this world ever happened, at which some did not have their fill of laughter,” A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

People in New Orleans aren’t laughing today and we’ll have to see if anyone laughs next week after the Rams travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals.
