Wes Welker Says Comments Were Meant To Be A Joke

Early this season, there were reports New England head coach Bill Bilichek was slowly fazing Wes Welker out of the Patriots offensive game plan.

After Sunday’s performance against the Broncos, where Welker totaled 104 yards on 13 receptions, he stated it was “nice to stick it in Bill’s face,” in regards to his dominant performance.

Wes Welker appeared frustrated that last night’s comments about Bill Belichick have created a whirlwind of speculation and attention, The Boston Herald reports.

“It was a joke,” Welker said. “I mean, I don’t know what else to say about it. It was a joke. Bill and I, whether you all believe it or not, have a good relationship. It was a joke, and I’ll make sure to keep that in-house going forward.”

This isn’t the first time Welker used the media to poke fun another person. In 2011, during a pregame interview, Welker made reference to New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan’s appreciation for feet.

Bill Bilicheck, a usual, had little to say on Welker’s comments and simply told the media, “I haven’t heard them.”
