In some ways, Tim Tebow has become the forgotten man in New York, as the long anticipated quarterback controversy has emerged but now seems to be between Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy. But that hasn’t stopped Tebow from continuing to reach and perform an act of compassion.
Spurred by a Twitter campaign, Tebow reached out to an Albany, NY, high school football player who lost his girlfriend in a car accident.
A drunk driver killed 17-year-old Deanna Rivers and her friend Christopher Stewart on Saturday night and students at the school started a Twitter campaign under the hashtag #TebowCallMatt to ask the Jets backup quarterback to call Rivers’ boyfriend Matt Hardy to offer his support.
Tebow Tweeted about it Monday evening, saying, “Thanks to everyone who got #TebowCallMatt trending & helped connect us. Matt truly inspired me. God bless y’all”
While people can question whether he should be in the discussion as the potential starting quarterback for the Jets, no one can question his character or the quality of the man off the field.
