With the trade deadline coming to a close on Tuesday, the trade winds are swirling faster than Hurricane Sandy.
ESPN’s Adam Shefter reported that teams are calling the Carolina Panthers to inquire about the availability of running back DeAngelo Williams and the Panthers are “willing to listen”.
Of course, without a General Manager it may be difficult to both listen and make a deal, especially with the coaching staff facing a week to week evaluation. The decisions from the front office on all trades and transactions will come in the form of a committee of administrators, personnel men and coaches with owner Jerry Richardson making the final decision on all matters.
With Jonathan Stewart getting the start and the bulk of the work going forward, it makes Williams, who still averages 5.0 yards-per-carry for his career. When Williams signed his new deal, all the guaranteed money in his post-lockout deal was in the first two years of the deal.
With several teams banged up at running back right now, the list for Williams’s services could be lengthy, but his age and contract may be a factor.
