PITTSBURGH – The Steelers have signed wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey to a one-year contract, the team announced today. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Heyward-Bey (6-2, 219) was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent his first four seasons with Oakland before being released on March 12, 2013. He signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts on April 1, 2013 and played in a career-high 16 games last season. For his career, Heyward-Bey has appeared in 72 regular-season games and made 64 starts. In his five NFL seasons, he has recorded 169 receptions for 2,380 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also carried 11 times for 109 yards.
Heyward-Bey appeared in his first career postseason contest with the Colts last season, but did not register a reception.
