Green Bay rookie RB Alex Green is out for the year with a knee injury. It happened on a special teams return when WR Randall Cobb ran into the back of his leg during Sunday’s victory at Minnesota.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy calls Green’s injury “very unfortunate,” saying his play had been improving and the team expected him to make an impact this season.
While Green walked off the field on his own power he will require surgery.
Green was a third-round draft pick out of Hawaii and had seen time mostly on special teams. He missed some time earlier in the season with an Achilles’ injury.
McCarthy said he and general manager Ted Thompson were discussing potential additions to the roster. It is unclear when the Packers will place Green on injured reserve.
