The Lions have re-signed RB Kevin Smith to a 1-year deal. Appearing in 7 games for Detroit last season, Smith averaged 4.9 yards per carry and caught 22 balls for 179 yards and 3 TDs. The Lions backfield is a sticky situation at this point. Smith is an injury-waiting-to-happen, Jahvid Best is dealing with chronic concussion issues, and Mikel Leshoure is recovering from a torn Achilles. When all 3 guys are healthy, Smith figures to play a minimal role as a passing-down option.
