Another year of “Sunday Night Football,” another beautiful blonde singing the show’s opening anthem.
After Faith Hill told NBC that she would not be returning to sing the introductory theme for “Sunday Night Football,” the network announced Tuesday that they would be debuting country music icon Carrie Underwood.
Hill had opened NBC’s telecast over the past six seasons with her song entitled “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night,” a retooled rendition of the Joan Jett hit, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
Underwood’s first Sunday Night regular-season appearance will come before a Dallas Cowboys game, which features her ex, quarterback Tony Romo. Underwood has since married a professional hockey player.
“I am thrilled to be a part of NBC’s Sunday Night Football and am so honored they asked me,” Underwood said via USA Today. “I have always loved football season, and it is so exciting to now become part of it every Sunday night!”
There has been no word as to whether or not the network or Underwood will use the same lyrics from previous years, but fans can only hope that a new voice means some tweaking to the less than stellar song lyrics.
After all, lines like “Al and Chris are the best on TV” are not exactly well versed.
