Bears Sign Ferguson and O’Donnell

LAKE FOREST, IL — The Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with DT Ego Ferguson and P Patrick O’Donnell on four-year contracts.
The 6-2, 315-pound Ferguson was selected by the Bears in the second round (51st overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft after appearing in 38 games for LSU, starting his final 12 contests finishing with 85 tackles (24 solos) – including one sack and five tackles for losses – five pass break ups and three quarterback pressures. In 2013, Ferguson earned All-Southeastern Conference honorable mention from the Associated Press and was named to NFL Draft Report’s All-American Super Sleeper Team (most underrated player at each position) after starting 12 games at defensive tackle, finishing fifth on the team and leading LSU defensive linemen with a career-high 58 tackles (18 solos) that included a 15-yard sack – three quarterback pressures, 3.5 TFLs and three pass deflections.
The 6-4, 220-pound O’Donnell, who was selected in the sixth round (191st overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft, spent four-plus seasons with Cincinnati (2009-12) and Miami, Fl. (2013) booming 234 punts for 10,168 yards (43.5 gross avg.), landing 86 punts inside-the-20. In 2013, O’Donnell was a unanimous All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team choice ranking third in the nation with a school record 47.1 gross average (53 punts for 2,498 yards). He had 19 punts land inside-the-20 and finished with a 40.0 net average in one season with the Hurricanes.
The Bears have reached agreement with six of their eight 2014 Draft picks after agreeing to terms with S Brock Vereen and QB David Fales yesterday and RB Ka’Deem Carey and T Charles Leno, Jr. earlier today.
