Jason Jenkins has been promoted to Vice President of Communications for the Miami Dolphins; it was announced today by Dolphins Chief Executive Officer Mike Dee. Jenkins will continue to maintain his role in the team’s media relations department on the football side and will take a greater responsibility in the strategic planning and implementation of projects involving the overall organization, including Sun Life Stadium and its allied events and programs. Jenkins, entering his fifth season with the Dolphins, previously served as the team’s Senior Director of Media Relations. He originally started with the Dolphins in 2009 as Director of Media Relations.
Jenkins joined Miami after working in the media relations department for the San Francisco 49ers, where he worked as the Director of Public Relations Operations and Assistant Public Relations Director. With the 49ers, Jenkins helped direct the team’s sports public relations functions, including preparation of press releases, arranging interviews and press conferences, producing media publications and providing media training.
During his time in the National Football League, Jenkins has been selected by the NFL to coordinate public relations for the Pro Bowl seven times (2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012) and one time for the NFC Championship Game (2006). He has also conducted seminars at the Rookie Symposium and NFL Business Summit on media relations.
Prior to his move to the 49ers, Jenkins served as the Associate Athletics Director at Texas Southern University from 1999-2002. At TSU, Jenkins was responsible for all aspects of sports information including media relations, imaging and creation of media guides and game programs. He also developed and implemented marketing and promotional plans for the school’s athletics department.
Prior to his time at Texas Southern, Jenkins served as the Athletics Sales and Promotion Manager and Sports Communications Assistant at Lehigh University from 1997-99. He was responsible for development plans for season tickets, group tickets and student support. Additionally, he was the primary contact for women’s basketball and Olympic sports.
A native of Houston, Texas, Jenkins earned his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Texas Tech University in 1997. Upon graduation, Jenkins worked in various positions within the athletics department at Texas Tech. He resides in Cooper City with his wife Elizabeth and two children Liya and Aiden.
