Recently the Miami Dolphins held their inaugural “Kiting with Kids and Fins” program with the Greynolds Park Elementary School in Miami Dade at Skyward Kites. The event featured over 50 children and some big name Miami Dolphins players including Dan Carpenter, Koa Misi, Josh Samuda, Ryan Tannehill, and Brian Tyms. Some of the other people that were present at the event were TD the Mascot, Cheerleaders Idelys and Megan, and Miami Dolphins Women’s Organization members Lauren Tannehill, Kaela Carpenter and Christal Washington, Tyms’ girlfriend.
“It was a great “It was a great time today flying kites,” said Tannehill. “The kids, I think, all had a good time, getting them out of a classroom setting and being able to enjoy some sunshine here in South Florida. If you look around, there’s kites across this whole field. You definitely see a lot of smiles and it definitely makes it all worth it.”
The Miami Dolphins gave each child their own kite and the students who participated in the event ranged from second to fifth grade students who are part of the aftercare program at Greynolds Park Elementary and Greynolds. Park Principal Jorge Mazon talk about how this was a great event for the students. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to first interact with the Dolphins and many students, although we live in South Florida, don’t get this opportunity to fly kites. It’s a wonderful opportunity. I didn’t think they were going to enjoy it as much as they are enjoying it.”
This was the Miami Dolphins first year of putting on this event and it was a huge success. “I’m actually having a lot of fun, I have a (2-year-old) daughter myself. I actually have a little kid side to me. Coming out here and playing with them, I feel like I’m playing with my own.” Miami Dolphin Brian Tyms said about the Kiting with Kids and Fins event. The main point of this event is to educate students on physics while also having fun flying kites and enjoying the beautiful Miami weather. A couple Dolphins actually showed some skill in kite flying like Dan Carpenter and Koa Misi.
