Panthers 21 Redskins 13

They call it the Redskins rule. Since 1940, there has been 18 presidential elections. The Redskins rule has correctly predicted the outcome of those elections 17 times. Mitt Romney was seen dancing* outside of RFK stadium after the Panthers defeated the Redskins, 21-13.

(*This has not been confirmed)

The Redskins rule is this. If the Redskins win their last home game before the election, the incumbent candidate will be re-elected. If the Redskins lose their last home game before the election, the challenger will be elected. This rule has applied correctly in every single election since 1940 except in 2004. If the rule applies correctly this year, Mitt Romney will be the next leader of the free world.

The game was a battle of the last two first overall selections in the NFL draft, Cam Newton and Robert Griffin III.

Newton passed for over 200 yards and a touchdown and added 50 yards rushing and another touchdown. Griffin matched Newton in passing and rushing yards but failed to lead a touchdown drive until the final minute of the game when the outcome was already decided.

Next week, the Panthers (2-6) will be home to play the Broncos, and the Redskins (3-6) will be on their bye.

Will the Redskins rule predict the winner of the elections for the 18th time in 19 tries since 1940? We will find out on Tuesday.
