Jason Taylor is a legend in Miami Dolphin’s history. With the team record of 131 career sacks and playing in 6 Pro Bowls, it looked as if Taylor could never be replaced. Then a star from the Canadian Football League was added as a LB to the Dolphin’s roster, and Cameron Wake is starting to turn some heads.
Wake is in his fourth season with the Miami Dolphins and the defensive staff could not be more excited about his continued progress. With his sack of Sam Bradford in Sunday’s game versus the Rams, Wake extended his sack count to 34.5 total career sacks putting him in 11th place for the team record. He also became the record holder of most sacks in the first four seasons playing for Miami (5.5 in 2009, 14.0 in 2010, 8.5 in 2011, and 6.5 in 2012), which puts him ahead of Jason Taylor, with only 31 total sacks in his first four seasons with the Dolphins.
Dolphin’s defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle is confident in Wake’s abilities stating, “He plays with such great energy. Every play there’s a chance for him to make something big happen and I think, as the season goes on, he’s going to continue to make more and more plays for us.”
If Wake’s career continues with the Dolphins and he stays healthy, he is bound to catch Taylor’s record, especially if he maintains his pace of one sack per game that he’s on this year. Although in the hearts of Dolphin’s fans, Jason Taylor will always be a defensive hero, Cameron Wake is proving himself to be a contender for a spot in Dolphin history.
