Running back Roger Craig was a key piece of the 49ers dynasty of the 1980s and 1990s, as he was on three Super Bowl winning teams with the 49ers out of the five that they won between 1981 and 1994. Looking at this year’s team, he sees the potential for another dynasty in the making.
“I see these guys doing some wonderful things this decade — I think (coach) Jim (Harbaugh) will do a great job of creating another dynasty and winning some Super Bowls,” Craig said this week. “I foresee us winning some Super Bowls in the next decade, if not this year, then in the years ahead.
“Wherever (Harbaugh) goes, he wins. He has the secret sauce, and I’m loving his flavor.”
The 49ers have put together a great nucleus of young players, ranging from defensive stars Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith, to the surprising offense that seems to be coalescing around Alex Smith, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore. In just Harbaugh’s first year, he has taken the group that went 6-10, and brought them to a home game in the NFC Championship Game with a chance to go back to the Super Bowl for the first time since their trouncing of the Chargers after the 1994 season.
“They’re creating their own legacy. It’s fair to let them live their own legacy and not compare them to us,” Craig said. “They did some special things this year. I was a fan of the team very early in the season. I could tell they were a dangerous team.”
