Father’s Day has been a long time tradition in many countries for at least 100 years.  It can be said the first Father’s Day dated back to 1910 in Spokane, Washington. Here Sonora Smart Dodd had the idea to honor her Civil War veteran dad, who was raising six kids on his own.

It wasn’t till 1972 when President Nixon signed it into law that the third Sunday of June was the permanent holiday honoring fatherhood and the influence of American dads in society. As her story evolved, it was said that Dodd made sure to take on the task of cooking for her father on this special day to show she cared.
