Titans Running Game Floundering

The Tennessee Titans entered this week last in the NFL in rushing, but managed to reduce their average after this week’s loss to the Houston Texans.  The Titans were averaging 66 yards per game, but managed only 53 yards in their 41-7 loss.

“I wouldn’t say I am the issue,” Chris Johnson said after the game, as reported by Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.  “I’m very confident I’ve been doing the things… I do. I can’t do nothing but keep working hard.”

Johnson was held to 18 yards on 10 carries.  He has carried for less than 55 yards in every game except one this year, his 101 yard outing against the Cleveland Browns.  This is also his third week with less than 25 yards rushing.

“If you are watching the game and you can’t tell what’s going on with the run game then I’d say u really don’t know football,” Johnson said.

Johnson rushed for 2,006 yards in 2009 averaging 125 yards per game.  He also set the NFL record that season for most yards from scrimmage with 2,509.

During the Titans bye week last week, Titans coach Mike Munchak said that fixing the running game was the team’s top priority. Clearly, they aren’t there yet.
