Miami Dolphins name Chris Grier as the team’s new general manager

Chris Grier, the Miami Dolphins former director of college scouting was named the team’s new general manager on Monday morning.

Dennis Hickey, the former general manager and the Dolphins parted ways on Saturday night after he had held the position the last two seasons.

“I think very highly of Chris Grier,” Dolphins owner Steve Ross said.

Grier has been with the Dolphins organization for the last 16 seasons. He spent nine seasons as the Dolphins director of college scouting, after spending his previous five seasons in New England’s personnel department.

In his new role as general manager, Grier will oversee the draft and personnel departments, reporting directly to Executive Vice President, Football Operations Mike Tannenbaum.

“I want to thank Stephen Ross and Mike Tannenbaum for this tremendous opportunity,” said Grier. “I love this organization and feel I am the right man for this job. South Florida is very important to me and my family and I look forward to working with our personnel and coaching staff to add talent to the roster.”

“I am really proud that Chris will lead our player personnel at both the college and pro level,” Tannenbaum said. “Chris is a passionate personnel executive that is highly respected throughout the NFL. His experience within the organization, background and approach to building a team made him the unquestioned choice to be our next General Manager.”

Grier began his NFL career with the Patriots as an intern in 1994. He joined the team on a full-time in 1995 and served as a regional scout until he joined the Dolphins in 2000. He attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst where he majored in journalism and played football for two years. Grier spent his final two years there as an undergraduate assistant.

He is the son of Bobby Grier, the former Vice President-Player Personnel with the New England Patriots who currently is the Associate Director of Pro Scouting with the Houston Texans.
