The San Diego Chargers re-signed cornerback Brandon Flowers to a new four-year contract, the team announced Monday.
The 5-9, 187-pound cornerback joined the Chargers as a free agent in 2014 and he went on to lead the team with three interceptions and 11 passes defensed. Flowers was a steady contributor throughout the season. He had one of his top performances of the year during a late-season 34-33 win at Baltimore when he shadowed Steve Smith, Sr., the Ravens’ leading receiver, and held him to one catch for two yards while breaking up a pair of passes.
Flowers spent his first six seasons in Kansas City and he was selected to the Pro Bowl in his final season (2013). A second-round draft pick (35th overall) by the Chiefs in 2008, Flowers played in 88 games and started 87. He racked up 421 tackles, 17 interceptions, three interception returns for touchdowns and 97 passes defensed. He also forced four fumbles, recovered five and was responsible for two quarterback sacks.
