The New York Jets added to their already talented receiving corps today, trading what is expected to be a mid-round pick to the Chicago Bears for star wide receiver Brandon Marshall, according to an Adam Schefter report.
(UPDATE: It has since been confirmed by multiple media reports that the compensation for the Bears is a fifth-round draft pick)
The deal will be complete once Marshall passes a physical, and once the new league year begins on March 10th.
Marshall, 30, is coming off an injury-plagued season but is still one of the better wide receivers in the league. His ability to go up and get the ball even when covered is his biggest asset, and it will add a large target to the Jets who is also great in the redzone.
Even through battling injuries all season, Marshall still put up 61 receptions for 721 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games played.
Marshall joins Percy Harvin and Eric Decker is what some might consider one of the better groups of pass catchers in the league right now.
At least on paper.
The Jets still need to find someone capable of getting them the football.
For the Bears, it will save nearly $4 million in salary cap space and $7.7 million in actual cash savings.
The five-time Pro Bowler has 773 catches for 9,771 yards and 65 touchdowns in nine NFL seasons.
