People know that in today’s NFL, if you want to win, you have to get to the quarterback. At the 2014 NFL Combine, the star of the Defensive Line is clearly South Carolina’s Defensive End, Jadeveon Clowney. The man that would have been the obviously pick for the #1 overall spot in last year’s draft, but was ineligible due to not being 3 years out of High School, was broken down and watched under a magnifying glass this past year. Joining Clowney in the DL group will be Dee Ford of Auburn, Kony Ealy and Michael Sam of Missouri, Louis Nix of Notre Dame, and Timmy Jernigan of Florida State.
Clowney came in a little lighter than the originally 275 lbs weight he was thought to be. He measured in at 6’5 and 1/4th 266 lbs with a 34 and half inch hand length. Dee Ford checked in at 6’2 and 1/8th 252 lbs with a 32 and 7/8th inch hand length. Kony Ealy came in at 6’4 273 lbs and a hand length of 34 and 1/4th inches. Michael Sam, the man who will be questioned mostly about his decision to announce that he is openly gay a week before the combine, measured in at 6’2 261 lbs and a 33 and 3/8th inch hand length. Of the 2 main Defensive Tackles in this draft, Nix came in at 6’2 331 lbs with a hand length of 33 inches, while Jernigan checked in at 6’2 299 lbs with a 31 and 5/8th inch hand length.
