ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has confirmed that Colts QB Peyton Manning underwent another neck surgery this morning. Mort called it a “cervical fusion” and says Manning is expected to be out another 2-3 months. No word yet on whether the team will place him on IR, but it has to be considered a possibility. Even the short end of that timetable would knock Manning out for the first 8 or 9 weeks – and that’s assuming he’s ready to play immediately after being cleared by doctors. At this point, Manning is only worth hanging on to in leagues with deep benches. Kerry Collins is Indianapolis’ starter for the foreseeable future and should be considered a low-end QB2 for now. But he could become a viable matchup play as he gets more comfortable in the offense. We’re also knocking all the Colts’ pass-catchers down our rankings.
