Throwing the football in the rain can be challenging.
Just ask quarterbacks Ryan Tannehill and Thad Lewis, who struggled mightily in the 1st half. Tannehill went 9-17 for 73 yards, while Lewis went 10-18 for 143 yards, but had a crucial interception midway through the second quarter as the Bills were on the edge of the red zone.
Other than just a couple throws, both of these quarterbacks had a very tough time slinging the wet pig skin to their receivers in the first quarter. As a result, both of these offenses have been quite stagnant in the first half. Halfway through the second quarter the Dolphins had produced just 19 positive yards of offense. That would explain the goose egg on the scoreboard for Miami at halftime.
With that being said, Buffalo’s defense has answered the call in the first half of this game. As the Dolphins are playing for a potential playoff spot, the Bills came out flying on defense. In this game, the 2013 Bills have set the franchise record for sacks in a regular season, which was originally set at 50. The Bills had four sacks in the first half, which puts them at 53 on the season.
Thad Lewis did not look sharp coming out of the gate, as he over threw his receivers quite frequently on their first couple of drives. As the game progressed however, Lewis got things going and was able to drive the Bills down the field. On a 9 play, 57 yard drive, Fred Jackson finished off the drive with a 9 yard touchdown run.
If Buffalo’s defensive line can dominate the trenches like they did in the first half, the Bills should have no problem controlling the line of scrimmage and applying more pressure on Tannehill. Buffalo just has to maintain their level of intensity that they started the game with in order to hold their 10 point lead and secure a victory.
