With Final Pick of First Round, Packers Take Sherrod

Picking an offensive lineman in the first round last year worked out well for the Green Bay Packers, so the Super Bowl champs did it again. With the 32nd pick in the NFL draft, the Packers took Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod.

Analysis: The Packers are getting old at left tackle and could move last year’s first-rounder, Brian Bulaga, to that side if Sherrod develops quickly enough to start at right tackle. There was some thought that the Packers could trade this pick to a team looking to move up and nab a quarterback ahead of the QB-needy teams at the front of the first round, but instead they used it to add depth to the offensive line.
