Saints Trade Up, Take Mark Ingram at 28

The Patriots made one first-round pick, but apparently two was too many for their tastes. So they traded the 28th overall pick to the New Orleans Saints, who used it to select 2009 Heisman Tropy winning running back Mark Ingram from Alabama.

Analysis: The Saints have had all kinds of problems the past two years keeping their running backs healthy, and Reggie Bush’s future in New Orleans is uncertain. So they dealt their 2011 second-round pick and their 2012 first-round pick to the Pats and moved up to grab Ingram, who’s the first running back taken in this year’s draft. Shortly after being picked, Ingram broke down in tears after ESPN reporter Suzy Kolber read him an e-mail from his incarcerated father, a former NFL receiver with the New York Giants.
