Josh Freeman Starter for the Vikings as They Face the Giants in MNF

Josh Freeman gets the start over Matt Cassel in his debut against the New York Giants. Freeman has worked his way up in the line up with hard work, dedication, and has familiarized the Viking’s playbook in a matter of weeks.

The Vikings announcement caps a frenzied couple of weeks for Freeman. He went from being benched and released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the starting quarterback in Minnesota only nine days after the Vikings signed him.

“We’re going to see how the week goes, but our anticipation is he’ll perform well,” said coach Leslie Frazier.

Frasier  said, “I like the things [Freeman] has done in his career, along with the things he’s done here with our football team — the time that he’s put in, how well he’s adapted to our system. Like his work ethic. He’s done enough for us to say we want to give him this opportunity, which is something we had in mind when we acquired him. We think now is the time.”

Freeman is very familiar with the Viking’s playbook; in his days at Kansas State, they had ran a similar system.

“I took out my old books, and started going through, looking at some of the different principle concepts in the offense, the run game,” Freeman said. “There’s a lot of carryover to different concepts. We’ve just been grinding. Some stuff sticks faster than others, but it’s been good.”

As a starter this season, Freeman has thrown for 571 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions, and has only completed 45.7 of his passes.
