Texans’ HC Gary Kubiak said RB Arian Foster (hamstring) remains day-to-day. “Until he’s out there it’s a concern, but everything is moving in the right direction,” Kubiak said.
Some said the MRI results Foster posted on Twitter don’t look too promising.
“Arian and I will handle that [situation where he posted his MRI photo on Twitter]. We’ll handle that,” said Texans head coach Gary Kubiak on Friday, Sept. 2. “There’s always going to be issues with your football team. There are a lot of issues, and you deal with them.
“You go the next day and you get ready to play. And that’s part of what we do. [It's] part of our business and [we as a team] don’t need distractions, and [we've] got to stay focused on our jobs so that’s what we’ll do.”
He remains 50-50 to play in the season opener. If Foster can’t go, Texans insider Steph Stradley believes RB Derrick Ward would start the team’s season opener against the Colts.
“Ward is currently the number 2 after Foster, mostly because he is game tested and the Texans have more confidence in his pass protection,” Stradley writes.
That may be true, but RB Ben Tate proved to be the more productive back in preseason action. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry compared to Ward’s 2.2 mark. Ward was ultra-efficient last year though, averaging 6.3 yards per rush. This will likely be a timeshare if Foster can’t go. It’s a reminder not to overvalue Tate, and not to forget about Ward.
